Periodic fever associated with intermittent rhythmic delta activity: a syndrome of hypothalamic origin?

We report the case of a patient with a 16 year history of periodic (30 day cycle) fever attacks. The infradian cycle, associated clinical features, and the findings of electroencephalogram recorded during two fever attacks suggest a periodic hypothalamic syndrome.

Occipital intermittent rhythmic delta activity in absence epilepsy.

Occipital intermittent rhythmic delta activity (OIRDA) is considered good prognostic factor in typical absences (TA). We report electroclinical evolution in 14 patients with TA and OIRDA, which performed video-EEG. Seven patients were female; 9 had childhood absence epilepsy and the others did not present electroclinical characteristics for syndromic classification according to ILAE's classific...

Localizing significance of temporal intermittent rhythmic delta activity (TIRDA) in drug-resistant focal epilepsy.

OBJECTIVE Temporal intermittent rhythmic delta activity (TIRDA) is an EEG pattern characterized by sinusoidal trains of activity, ranging from 1 to 3.5 Hz, and well localized over the temporal regions. It is considered to be an indicator of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), but full agreement between different authors has still not been reached. The aim of this study was therefore to assess the rol...

Altered Intermittent Rhythmic Delta and Theta Activity in the Electroencephalographies of High Functioning Adult Patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is often associated with epilepsy. Previous studies have also shown increased rates of electroencephalographic (EEG) alteration in ASD patients without epilepsy. The aim of this study was to compare the rate of intermittent rhythmic delta and theta activity (IRDA/IRTA) events between high-functioning adult patients with ASD and matched healthy controls...

The electroencephalogram changes in migraineurs.

Migraine is associated with a variety of electroencephalographic (EEG) changes. Previous studies using analogue EEG and old diagnostic criteria may under or over report the prevalence of EEG changes in migraine. The objective of this study was to reevaluate the EEG changes in migraine patients diagnosed by applying the new International Classification of Headache Disorder -2 criteria. This was ...
